Introduction
Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research, and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital provides state-of-the art clinical facilities and well-equipped diagnostic services. The University currently has teaching sites in Pakistan, East Africa, the United Kingdom, and Afghanistan, and is a major component of Aga Khan Development Network.
The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.
The Aga Khan University invites applications for the grant-funded contractual position of Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- conducting interviews and jotting down detailed notes on interviews and observational visits
- effectively managing field work processes to ensure efficiency
- facilitating meetings among the research team and junior research staff
- training new junior staff (Lady Health Workers - LHWs / Community Health Workers - CHWs) in research / interviewing skills and proper data collection processes
- visiting different households in the communities to ensure successful completion of data collection in their areas including quality control
- liaising with admin regarding logistics for field/hospital work
- developing and conducting regular trainings of LHWs and CHWs
- providing supervision and support to LHWs / CHWs liaising with their respected supervisors
- raising wider community awareness on child health related issues based on project guidelines
- ensuring field implementation of project related SOPs and guidelines as defined in the research project
- preparing and presenting weekly project related activity report
Requirements
You should have:
- a bachelor’s from an HEC recognized or reputable foreign university. However, master’s will be given preferences
- at least one to two years of relevant experience
- prior training and use of developmental tools like Mullens Developmental Assessment Tool, GSED will be an added advantage. Global Scale Of Early Development (GSED) Children
- ability to showcase respect towards diverse cultural settings/differences
- excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently
- good communication and interpersonal skills
- resilience and ability to cope under pressure
- the enthusiasm to work in different communities
